Second ENSREG Conference on Nuclear Safety in Europe, Brussels (11-12 June 2013) - Webstreaming links

The European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) second conference on Nuclear Safety will take place at the European Commission’s Charlemagne Building located in Brussels, Belgium on 11-12 June 2013.

ENSREG is an independent, authoritative expert body. It is composed of senior officials from the national nuclear safety, radioactive waste safety and/or radiation protection regulatory authorities from all 27 Member States in the European Union and representatives of the European Commission.

ENSREG has adopted Technical Input to a Revised Nuclear Safety Directive

Following a request by the European Commission, ENSREG has set up an ad hoc working group to examine the European Commission proposal of a revised Nuclear Safety Directive and to establish an ENSREG summary position.

Based on the work of this ad hoc working group, ENSREG has adopted all together four documents:

Public Consultation on National Action Plans

In the frame of the peer review of National Action Plans following the EU stress tests for nuclear power plants, stakeholders have the opportunity to put questions and file comments regarding the National Action Plans, via the ENSREG website.

The National Action Plans can be consulted under the Country Specific Reports (select 'EU Member States' or 'EU Neighbouring countries').

(The feedback period was from 25 February to 20 March 2013*).

Statement from Tero Varjoranta, Chairperson of ENSREG,following the Group’s 21st meeting of 19th November 2012

• ENSREG debated the potential means for the improvement of the relationship and communications with the Commission following the publication of the stress test communication and discussed potential ways and conditions, for collaboration and consultation with the EC in respect of the proposed new revised Nuclear Safety Legislation.

• ENSREG endorsed the work of WG1 regarding the ENSREG guidelines for member states reports under Art 9.1 of the council directive 2009/71/EURATOM.

Compilation of stress test peer review recommendations and suggestions

As part of the ENSREG Action Plan regarding the follow-up of the peer review of the stress tests performed on European nuclear power plants ENSREG decided to prepare by September 2012, a consistent compilation of stress test peer review recommendations and suggestions to assist the preparation or review of national action plans by national regulators. The compilation is provided in the attached PDF file.

ENSREG Action Plan for fact finding site visits

The ENSREG action plan specifies that a sufficient number of follow-up fact finding site visits would take place up to September 2012 to support the preparation of national action plans and the October EC report to the European Council. Please find attached the list of the sites to be visited and associated data. These site visits shall focus on information exchange with respect to measures taken, planned or under consideration to improve safety as part of the national action plans.

ENSREG has adopted an Action Plan regarding the follow-up of the peer review of the stress tests performed on European nuclear power plants

The Action Plan specifies the need for country specific action plans and a regulatory peer review workshop to share lessons learned on the implementation of post-Fukushima safety improvements. It also specifies fact-finding follow-up site visits in order to better prepare for the peer review workshop. The outcomes of the peer review workshop will be presented to the public in the next ENSREG conference and the country-specific plans will also be publicly available. Furthermore, ENSREG decided to publish Quarterly Updates on the stress tests follow-up on this website.
