Following the accidents in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in 2011, the European Council requested that a comprehensive safety and risk assessment be performed on all EU nuclear plants. Therefore, stress tests and peer reviews assessing natural initiating events, the loss of safety systems and severe accident management have been performed in the European Union countries as well as in certain non-EU countries, on a voluntary basis, with nuclear power plants.
Turkey submitted a National report based on the ENSREG specifications in 2012 and revisited it in in 2018 in view of the most recent developments concerning the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
As the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant progresses towards a scheduled launch in 2023, an ENSREG Peer Review team is currently reviewing the National Report of Turkey on the Comprehensive Risk and Safety Assessment ("Stress Tests") of Nuclear Power Plants.
Within this exercise, members of the public have the opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions in relation to the updated National Report.
You may submit questions within the scope and modalities of the exercise (see below) and relevant to the comprehensive risk and safety assessment arising from the National Report until 19 November 2021 using the following form: Public Consultation on the Turkish National Report on the European "Stress Tests" for Nuclear Power Plants. EU Login is needed. If you don’t have an EU Login account, please follow these instructions to set up one.
Questions from the public, falling within the scope of the exercise, will be published on the ENSREG website and communicated to the Turkish authorities. In the questionnaire, you will be able to choose if you wish to have your name and affiliation displayed together with the question you posed. The respective answers will be published on the ENSREG website once received.
