Due to space limitations, attendance is by invitation only. A streaming service available at ENSREG website will facilitate following the conference live.
ENSREG is an independent, authoritative expert body created in 2007 and is composed of senior officials from the national nuclear safety, radioactive waste safety and/ or radiation protection regulatory authorities from all 27 Member States in the European Union and representatives of the European Commission.
The role of ENSREG is to help to establish the conditions for continuous improvement and to reach a common understanding in the areas of nuclear safety and radioactive waste management.
With this first ENSREG Conference, the European competent authorities aim at improving the nuclear safety approach in Europe, to better confront the challenges of the future.
The conference therefore will bring together members from the different nuclear regulatory authorities with nuclear plant owners, key industry stakeholders, representatives from national governments, international regulators and relevant interest groups for an intensive exchange of all relevant experiences on safety and regulatory activities.
Programme of the conference
The opening session will include interventions of ENSREG President of the Conference and President of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council, Mrs. Carmen Martínez Ten; Commissioner in charge of Energy, Mr. Günther Oettinger; Member of the “Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE)” Committee from the European Parliament, Mr. J. Brezina, and, as representative from the Council of the EU, Deputy-Minister of State for Energy Affairs of Hungary, Pál Kovács.
Some of the topics treated during this Regulatory Conference are:
- The outlook of the harmonization of nuclear safety;
- The implementation of the nuclear safety directive;
- National experiences and works derived in the field of transparency, and
- The development of a possible directive on nuclear waste and spent fuel.
A final panel session will deal with the “EU stress tests” derived from the event in Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plants. Chaired by Mr. André-Claude Lacoste, Vice-President of the Conference, it will include presentations and participation of the civil society, international and European organizations, non-governmental and nuclear-related associations.
